A Bit About Me
Hello! My name is Autumn Ducharme. I am a visual artist passionate about community and environment. I studied visual art at BealArt and Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University, Halifax. I took my electives at Dalhousie University in creative writing and Sustainability Studies. I graduated in 2021 and returned to the lake I call home. Lake Huron is a freshwater lake where I grew up and has been an inspiration for my projects for the past 4 years.
When I returned home, I co founded an art and conservation festival with my friend and coworker Bethany Davidson called Froggy Fest. Together with the local businesses we raised over $20, 000 for local conservation projects and education. We are planning for our second Froggy Fest for September 21, 2024 since it is a leap year, and that was too good to pass up.
Since then I have helped start PEACH Collective: Promoting Emerging Artist Collective Huron where we engage with local events and help round together emerging artists to participate in community outreach and festivals. We have workshops, murals, an Artwalk and lots of other motivating projects planned for this year to support our local emerging artists connect with the people they need to reach.
These days I am running our Life Drawing Drop In Sessions at Tribute Studios Tattoo Parlour, and volunteering as a Committee Member for the Blyth Festival Art Gallery Board. I am departing on a trip to Brazil for three months where I will be teaching art at a public school, volunteering at a Reforestation and Agro-foresty Research Center, learning to rock climb Rio style, and participating at an Artist Residency in a fishing village.
When I am not creating art, I love to fill up journals with writing, read books by ecologists and climbers, learn more about rock climbing out on walls around Collingwood or at the home bouldering gym; Maitland Valley Grotto. I love running local trails, and backpacking in Algonquin Park and Killarney, snuggling my mum's dog, and spending time with my loved ones.

Blyth Festival Theatre, commissioned 7 hand carved lino prints for their 50th anniversary season posters. Find this projects on the Portfolio page.
Meeting Place Farm commissioned a large 14 ft long mural for their farm store. I also picked apples for them from their old orchard. Find the Design and eventually photos of the completed project on the Portfolio page
Firmly Rooted Farm hired me as a farm hand where I worked in the organic vegetable fields harvesting and planting by hand for 3 years. In my time with them, they commissioned 2 different murals, including their front sign, designs for their shirts, cooler bags, and fermentation products. I have done work for their social media as well as participated in markets at their beautiful farm.
Out of the Blue Sea Food Restaurant commissioned an 18ft long mural for their new space in Bayfield, Ontario. Their design is the Background behind my profile photo on this resume.
Huron Ridge Greenhouses hired me on their staff for their retail area and then onto their planters team. I then ran a natural dye workshop for their 50th anniversary in 2023.
Goderich Co-op Gallery approached me to do a solo exhibition at their Gallery. I titled it Grow Small and the show featured large scale paintings based on my experiences at Firmly Rooted Farm and the strong, determined woman who worked with me there.
Through the winter of 2022 I had a steady stream of personal commissions. Primarily paintings requested for people's homes from London, Ontario to Toronto. Workshop requests from local community centres also steadily came in.
Since then, I have done a pastel workshop for the McKay workshop and the South Huron Art Centre, as well as hosted my own printmaking workshop from my home in Goderich. I have taught printworkshops one on one, and was invited to lead a collage workshop for the Tastes of Huron Community Cookbook project in partnership with the Newcomers in the area.
Through the summer season I have been participating in markets around Huron County and in Toronto. I bring my personal work, including paintings, pastels, drawings, and printmaking. I also like to bring along stickers and patches that I design.
I started part time at Elizabeth's Art Gallery where I helped with print orders and framing orders. I learned about colour matching the printer, archival framing techniques, and scanned large scale paintings for fine art quality reproduction.
Through high school I was a gymnastics instructor in South Huron for ages 4-12. I helped out with the program, became head coach in my grade 10 year, and then moved to London for BealArt.
